Basketball WA & A Stitch in Time announce Mental Health Partnership

AStitch in Time (ASIT) and Basketball WA (BWA) are excited to announce an ongoing partnership to provide immediate support for the mental health and wellbeing for the sporting organisation and its members across Western Australia through 2020/21 and beyond.

As everyone is aware, the 2020 season has been severely disrupted by the COVID-19 crisis, leading to stress, anxiety and uncertainty around the basketball season for staff and players. Basketball WA are extremely cognisant of the effect it’s had on their people, and are aiming to increase the mental health & wellness and resilience in their coaches, staff and players.

In addition to a Memorandum of Understanding being signed, the provision of a 2-Tiered “Mental Health & Wellbeing Program” will be made immediately available and delivered by the ASIT team to BWA and it’s associated clubs, as part of the mental health support process for coaches, staff and players throughout 2020/21.

The aim of this program is to educate members in the importance of mental health & wellbeing, foster positive psychological wellbeing, and provide participants with a suite of tools and techniques that can be utilised to increase resilience in times of disruption and change, and assist in their own personal growth & development.

The “Mental Health & Wellbeing Program” is designed to be preventative, informative & interactive in nature to enable participants to get an understanding of the importance of managing stress & their mindset during change, to give them the ability to monitor their own wellbeing levels and those of others, and be proactive in fostering positive mental health and wellbeing going forward in their own lives.

The ASIT team includes former Perth Wildcats players Greg Hire & Brad Robbins as well as Perth Psychologist, Dr Marny Lishman – who will be available to facilitate all aspects of the program.

All BWA clubs will be contacted in the coming weeks for bookings of initial workshops.
